I know, I know, you look at the subject title and think "what's so special about May 15th?"
Well I'm going to tell you.
lynne and I did what we call "chat room shows" a while back when we were with a internet radio station. Since this past October we have been doing our own thing. Well if May 15th comes and nothing changes, we may have to close up shop.
Now you are asking yourself, "changes? what changes?" On March 2nd of this year, the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington D.C. made a decision and that decision will increase the rates for internet broadcasters so dramatically that thousands of internet broadcasters will have to shut down - including Beauty From Ashes Radio, the station that I and lynne run.
See we are licensed through an organization called Loudcity (loudcity.net) so that we are legal. However because of the March 2nd decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington D.C., if the new rates go into effect, it will bankrupt Loudcity because they pay BMI, SESAC, ASCAP and Soundexchange the royalties.
Since the March 2nd decision was made, a large group of internet webcasters have banded together to try and overturn the ruleing.
However time is running out and lynne and I (plus thousands of other webcasters) need your help.
"What can I do?" Is something you might be thinking at the moment.
There is a website called "SaveNetRadio.org" that has lots of information. What we need you to do is call your representative in Congress. If you don't know who that is, or are unsure, go to this page www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/callalert/index.tt?alertid=9679516&type=TA
and put in your zip code, then click "Go" and up will come the name of your representative in Congress plus some points on which to bring up to your representative so they don't give you the runaround.
I know that some of you may be thinking, "But I don't live in America so I can't call Congress." Well the SaveNetRadio.org site has a section for International Listeners at www3.capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/mlm/signup/
A bill was introduced on April 26th called "The Internet Radio Equality Act HR2060." That bill needs you support so we can continue to bring you the music. If this bill doesn't get the support it needs, May 15th will be the day the music died. I'm not exaggerating, I'm telling you the truth, please help us!
