Now I know this may seem confusing but I'm going to try and explain how I constructed yesterday (Tuesday).
I replaced what I had in my SAM Clockwheel (the thing that tells SAM what to play and when) with the following.
Cat['Time-Warp Wednesday'].QueueBottom(smLRP, EnforceRules);
Cat['Time-Warp Wednesday'].QueueBottom(smLRPA, EnforceRules);
Cat['Time-Warp Wednesday'].QueueBottom(smRandom, EnforceRules);
Cat['Classic Metal'].QueueBottom(smRandom, EnforceRules);
Cat['TWW New Classics'].QueueBottom(smLRP, EnforceRules);
"Cat" stands for Category, so when a Clockwheel starts, it pulls music from the Category in SAM to play.
Not that this applies to you but just in case you're wondering what LRP and LRPA stand for.
LRP stands for Least Recently Played song
LRPA stands for Least Recently Played Artist
Enforced Rules means that SAM will look up the Least Recently played song within a Category and SAM will look up the Least Recently Played Artist within a Category and put them in the Que in SAM Broadcaster. That's just so you understand what all that means.
I created a Category just for Classic Metal so in this Clockwheel, after every 3rd song that is in my Time-Warp Wednesday list (which is my definition of oldies, classic rock etc), it plays a song from the Classic Metal Category.
Now you are wondering what the Category TWW New Classics is I bet. That is made up of artists that came out in the 70's or 80's and have a new album out currently or an album that's been out for a while.
In that list is
AC/DC - Black Ice
Apologetix - Future Tense (They came out in the 90's but I put them in there because they parady some songs from the 80's)
Def Leppard - Songs From The Sparkle Lounge
Helloween - Gambling With The Devil
Kylie Minogue - X
Metallica - Death Magnetic
Michael W. Smith - A New Hallelujah
Motley Crue - Saints of Los Angeles
Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain
Steelheart - Good 2B Alive
Testament - Formation of Damnation
X-Sinner - World Covered In Blood
AC/DC began back in the 70's, Def Leppard began in the late 70's and made their way to America in the early 80's I think.
Helloween began in the mid 80's. Kylie Minogue as you know has been around for quite a long time. Metallica began in the early 80's, some say they are the originators of the Thrash Metal scene.
Michael W. Smith actually began his carrier in music before he released his first album in 1983 (I think). Before that he was writing for other artists. Ozzy Osbourne began with Black Sabbath back in 1969. Testament began around 1986/87 playing their own brand of Thrash Metal. Steelheart became a very popular Glam Metal band in the early 90's with their song "(Angel Eyes) I'll Never Let You Go." (I made an exception with Steelheart since they gained popularity in the 90's)
X-Sinner released their first album in 1989, which sounded similar to Def Leppard (who had released their ground breaking album "Hysteria" two years prior) and similar to Cinderella.
So in a way, this was an eclectic tuesday. If I have totally confused you then I do sincerely apologize.
